Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let p ( x ) = 2x² + x + a = 1

If p ( x ) is divided by ( x - 3 ),then x -3 = 0 ⇒ x = 3

∴ p ( 3 ) = 2 ( 3 )² + 3 + a = 1

⇒ 2 ( 9 ) + 3 + a = 1

⇒ 18 + 3 + a = 1

⇒ 21 + a = 1

⇒ a = 1 - 21 = - 20

∴ The value of a = - 20 is the answer.
