If 2x = 3y, find the value of 5x - 3y / x + y

given...

2x = 3y

take 2 to the other side

x = 3y/2 ( eq no 1).

now you have value of x

substitute value of x in 5x -3y /x+y ..

5(3y/2) -3y / 3y +2y/2

take lcm

= ( 15y/2 -3y) / ( 3y +5y)/2

9y / 2 / 5y /2

by division we get

9y/5y

.

y gets canceled out

answer is 9/5
