Given : 3 ˣ⁻¹ = 9 and 4ʸ⁺² = 64

To find :  Value of x and y

3 ˣ⁻¹ = 9

3 ˣ⁻¹ = 3²

x – 1 = 2

[On equating the exponents]

x = 2 + 1

x = 3

and

4ʸ⁺² = 64

4ʸ⁺² = 4³

y + 2 = 3

[On equating the exponents]

y = 3 - 2

y = 1

Value of x/y = 3/1  = 3

Hence the value of x/y is  3 .
