a - 3/2 = 3-a

= 2a = 3 + 3/2

= 2a = 9/2

a = 9/4

The value of a is 2.25

  • 3/2 , a and 3 are in A.P. So they have a constant common difference.
  • That means the difference between second and first term = difference between third and second term
  • Hence a-3/2 = 3 -a
  • Solving this we get 2a = 3+3/2 = 4.5
  • from there we get a = 2.25
  • Hence the value of a is 2.25
