Solution :-

Let the number be x.

\\

According to the question,

  • 3/5 of the number = 3/5 x
  • 2/7 of the number = 2/7 x

\\

3/5 of a number exceeds it's 2/7 by 44.

Writing it mathematically;

 \dfrac{3}{5} x = \dfrac{2}{7} x + 44 \\ \\

 \dashrightarrow \: \: \tt{ \dfrac{3x}{5} = \dfrac{2x}{7} + 44 } \\ \\

On transposing x terms to LHS

 \dashrightarrow \: \: \tt{ \dfrac{3x}{5} - \dfrac{2x}{7} = 44} \\ \\

By taking LCM

\dashrightarrow \: \: \tt{ \dfrac{21x - 10x}{35} = 44} \\ \\

\dashrightarrow \: \: \tt{ \dfrac{11x}{35} = 44 } \\ \\

\dashrightarrow \: \: \tt{11x = 44 \times 35} \\ \\

\dashrightarrow \: \: \tt{x = \dfrac{44 \times 35}{11} } \\ \\

 \implies \boxed{ \boldsymbol{x = 140}} \\ \\

\\

VERIFICATION:

Substitute the value of x as 140 in the question.

3/5 of 140 = 84

2/7 of 140 = 44

Obviously 84 exceeds 44 by 40.
