Hi.

✏ QUESTION

IF (3,p) IS MID POINT OF THE LINE JOINING THE POINTS (6,7) AND (5,3), FIND THE VALUE OF p.

✒ SOLUTION

==> LET X(3,p) BE THE MID POINT OF THE LINE JOINING THE POINTS A(6,7) AND B(5,3).

NOW,

LET A(6,7) AND B(5,3)
BE A(x1, y1) AND B(x2, y2)

AND X(5,3) BE X(x, y).

WE KNOW,

MID POINT FORMULA,

==> x = (x1 + y1)/2 y = (y1 + y2)/2

==> p = (7 + 3)/2............{we are calculating only for y coordinate as we already know the x coordinate}

==> 2p = 10 ==> p = 5

THIS IMPLIES,

p = 5.

AND THIS IMPLIES,

(3, 5) are the coordinates of the given mid point joining the points (6,7) and (5,3).
