Given: 3/x+4/y=18,5/x+6/y=28

To find: x+y

Sol: Let 1/x be a and 1/y be b

Therefore 3a+4b=18............(1)

And 5a+6b=28.............(2)

From(1), a=18-4b/3........(3)

Putting a in (2), we get

5(18-4b/3) +6b=28

(90-20b/3) +6b=28

90-20b+18b=28b

90-2b=28b

90-30b=0

90=30b

b=3

Putting b=3 in (3)

a=18-12/3

a=6/3

a=2

Now,1/x=a

1/x=2

x=1/2

Also, 1/y=b

1/y=3

y=1/3

Therefore, x+y=1/2+1/3

x+y=3+2/6

x+y=5/6
