The value of x + y = 5

Given :

The equations : 3x + 2y = 13 & 3x - 2y = 5

To find :

The value of x + y

Solution :

Step 1 of 4 :

Write down the given equations

The given equations are

3x + 2y = 13 - - - - - (1)

3x - 2y = 5 - - - - - - (2)

Step 2 of 4 :

Find the value of x

Adding Equation 1 and Equation 2 we get

6x = 18

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies x =  \frac{18}{6} }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies x =  3}

Step 3 of 4 :

Find the value of y

Putting x = 3 in Equation 1 we get

( 3 × 3 ) + 2y = 13

⇒ 9 + 2y = 13

⇒ 2y = 4

⇒ y = 2

Step 4 of 4 :

Find the value of x + y

Thus the required value of x + y

= 3 + 2

= 5
