3x + 5y : 3x - y = 7 : 1

Explanation:

Given that,

3x + 4y : x + 2y = 9 : 4

or, (3x + 4y) / (x + 2y) = 9 / 4

or, 4 (3x + 4y) = 9 (x + 2y)

or, 12x + 16y = 9x + 18y

or, 12x - 9x = 18y - 16y

or, (12 - 9) x = (18 - 16) y

or, 3x = 2y ..... (1)

Now, 3x + 5y : 3x - y

= (3x + 5y) / (3x - y)

= (2y + 5y) / (2y - y) [by (1)]

= 7y / y

= 7 / 1

= 7 : 1

∴ 3x + 5y : 3x - y = 7 : 1

3x + 5y : 3x - y = 7 : 1

Step-by-step explanation:

3x+4y : x+2y = 9 : 4

3x + 4y / x + 2y = 9 / 4

4 (3x + 4y) = 9 (x+2y)

12x + 16y = 9x + 18y

3x = 2y  ------------------------------(1)

3x + 5y : 3x - y  ---------------------(2)

Substituting 3x = 2y in the equation 2, we get:

2y + 5y : 2y - y

7y : 1y

So 3x + 5y : 3x - y = 7 : 1
