subtracting (2) from (1);

5x+3y = 14

- 3x+5y = 10

=> 2(x-y) = 4

x-y = 2

x=2-y ----------(3)

(3) in (1)

=> 3(2+y)+5y = 10

6+3y+5y = 10

6+8y = 10

8y = 4

y = 0.5

x-y = 2

x-0.5 = 2

x = 2.5

=> x+y = 2.5+0.5 = 3
