Hello mate,

Multiply first equation with 5 and second with 3 and subtract 2 from 1,

So you will get,

16y = 24
y = 6/4
y = 3/2

put y in first to get x,

3x = 9 - 15/2
x = 1/2

So, x + y = 2

hope this helps you out!

iamgautam015: i think it is wrong.add the equations.you will get 8x + 8y=16.take 8 common and divide it by 16.so you will get x=2
iamgautam015: sorry,x + y=2
iamgautam015: thanks
iamgautam015: i just did it the short way
iamgautam015: thanks

multiply equation (1) with 5
---> 15x+25y=45
multiply equation (2) with 3
----> 15x + 9y = 21
now substitute both the equation
---> 16y= 24
so y= 24/16= 3/2

now X= 9-5y/3 ( from equation 1)
X= (9-15/2)/3
X= (18/2-15/2)/3
X= 3*3/2=9/2

therefore X+y = 12/2= 6
