If 3x+5y=9 and 5x+3y=7 then find the value of x-y.

Answer:

3x+5y=9

3x=9-5y

x=9-5y/3

5x+3y=7

5(9-5y/3)+3y=7

27×5-25y+9y=21

135-16y=21

y=21-135/-16

y=-114/-16

y=57/8

so x=213/24

x-y=213/24-57/8

=7/4
