Answer:

(3x+5y) + (5x+9y) = 9+7 = 16

= 3x+5x+9y+5y

= 8x+8y

=8(x+y)=16

therefore, x+y = 16/2 = 2

2 is the answer.

Answer:

Given equations

3x+5y=9 ->(1)

5x+3y=7 ->(2)

Step-by-step explanation:

multiple 5 in (1) and 3in (2)

5(3x+5y=9) => 15x+25y=45 ->(3)

3(5x+3y=7) => 15x+9y=21 ->(4)

subtract (3) and (4)

15x+25y-15x-9y=45-21

16y=24

y=3/2

substitute y in (1)

3x+5(3/2)=9

3x=9-15/2

3x=(18-15)/2=3/2

x=1/2

x+y=3/2+1/2=4/2

x+y=2
