Step-by-step explanation:

· 3x+5y=9-----(1). 5x+3y=7-----(2). multiplying eq(1) by 5 & eq(2) by 3 we get. 15x +25y=45. -15x ± 9y= - 21. ______. 16y=24. y= 1624

SOLUTION

  • 3x + 5y = 9 (i)
  • 5x + 3y = 7 (ii)

We will solve this by elimination method,

Multiply (i) by 3 and (ii) by 5,we get;

  • 9x + 15y = 27 (iii)
  • 25x + 15y = 35 (iv)

Subtracting (iii) from (iv), we get;

  • 16x = 8
  • x = 8 / 16
  • x = 1 / 2

Putting the value of x in (i) we get;

  • 3 × 1 + 5y = 9

2

  • 3 + 5y = 9

2

  • 3 + 10y = 9

2

  • 3 + 10y = 9 × 2
  • 3 + 10y = 18
  • 10y = 18 - 3
  • y = 15 ÷ 10
  • y = 3 / 2

Now,

  • x + y = 1 + 3

2 2

  • 1 + 3 =) 4 / 2 = 2

2

  • So, x + y = 2

OPTION II IS CORRECT
