3x + y = 10 .... (i)

3x - y = 8 .... (ii)

Adding eqn (i) and (ii)

3x+y+3x-y=10+8

6x=18

x=18/6

x=3

Using x=3 in eqn (i)

3(3) + y = 10

y=10-9

y=1
