QUESTION✪:-

If 3x - y = 10 and x - 3y = -2 , find the value of x - y .

ANSWER✪:-

(1) 3x - y = 10

(2)x - 3y = -2

by elimination method ,

(1) 3x - y = 10

(2)×33x -9y = -6

__________________

➠ 8y = 16

➠ y = 16/8

\boxed{\sf{y=2}}

sub/: y=2 in (1)

➠ 3x - y = 10

➠ 3x -(2)= 10

➠ 3x = 10 + 2

➠ 3x = 12

➠ x = 12/3

\boxed{\sf{x=4}}

therefore ,

  • x = 4
  • y = 2

FIND THE VALUE OF X - Y :

➥x-y = 4-2

\boxed{\sf{x-y= 2}}

Solution :

⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀

3x - y = 10 -(1)

x - 3y = -2 -(2)

⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀

From (2),

x = -2 + 3y

⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀

Put in (1),

3(-2+3y) - y = 10

-6 + 9y - y = 10

-6 + 8y = 10

8y = 10 + 6

8y = 16

 \sf y = \dfrac{16}{8}

 \sf y = \dfrac{\cancel{16}^{2}}{\cancel{8}_{1}}

 \boxed{\sf y = 2}

⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀

Now, put value of y in (2),

x - 3(2) = -2

x -6 = -2

x = -2 + 6

\boxed{\sf x = 4}

⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀

Therefore, value of x = 4 and y = 2
