A number is a multiple of 3, if sum of it's digits are multiple of 3.

i.e., 3+x+1+2 = 6 + x should be multiple of 3.

Therefore, possible values of x are 0, 3, 6, 9

Given :

3x12 is a multiple of 3 and x is digit

To find :

The value of x

Concept :

Divisibility rule of 3 :

If the sum of the digits of a number is divisible by 3 , then the number is divisible by 3

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Write down the given number

Here the given number is 3x12

Step 2 of 3 :

Find sum of the digits

The sum of the digits

= 3 + x + 1 + 2

= x + 6

Step 3 of 3 :

Find the value of x

We know that if the sum of the digits of a number is divisible by 3 , then the number is divisible by 3

Since 3x12 is a multiple of 3

So 3x12 is divisible by 3

⇒ x + 6 is divisible by 3

Since x is a digit

∴ x = 0 , 3 , 6 , 9

Hence the possible values of x are 0 , 3 , 6 , 9
