Concept

When you solve an equation, you calculate the value of the unknown variable while maintaining the equation's balance on both sides. A condition on a variable is an equation when it guarantees the equality of two expressions in the variable. The equation is considered to have a solution when the value of the variable is such that the equation holds.

Given

the equations are :

3y ₊ x = 2 .....eq(1)

x ₊ 2y = 3 .....eq(2)

Find

determine the value of y after solving the equations.

Solution

from the given data,

3y ₊ x = 2 .....eq(1)

x ₊ 2y = 3 .....eq(2)

solve both the equations.

3y ₊ x = 2

2y ₊ x = 3

⁻    ⁻       ⁻

we get, y = ₋1

substitute y avlue in eq(1) to get the value of x.

3y ₊ x = 2

3(₋1) ₊ x = 2

₋3 ₊ x = 2

x = 5

hence we get the value of x and y as 5 and ₋1 respectively.
