To find:

Solution:

The cost of 2.5 kg of oranges = £1.40

So, The cost of 1 kg of orange = $\frac{1.40}{2.5} =$ £ 0.56

∴ The cost of 4.5 kg of oranges = £ 0.56/kg × 4.5 kg = £ 2.52

As given in the question, we can form an equation as,

[Cost of 4.5 kg oranges] + [Cost of 3 kg apples] = £ 3.87

⇒ £ 2.52 + [Cost of 3 kg apples] = £ 3.87

⇒ [Cost of 3 kg apples] = £ 3.87 - £ 2.52

⇒ Cost of 3 kg apples = £ 1.35

⇒ Cost of 1 kg apple = $\frac{1.35 }{3}$
