because
4 equal resistors of 1ohm is connected in parallel
equivalent resistant =1/r1+1/r2+1/r3+1/r4
=1/1+1/1+1/1+1/1
=(1+1+1+1)/1
=4/1
=4ohm
if they are connected in series
equivalent resistant =r1+r2+r3+r4
=1+1+1+1
=4ohm
