since -4 is a zero of the quadratic equation, it satisfies its value, putting which the ultimate value of the equation becomes zero.

 {x }^{2}  - 5x  + k = 0 \: ... \\ ... \: when \: x =  - 4 \\  \\  hence \\   {( - 4)}^{2}  - 5( - 4) + k = 0 \\ 16 + 20 + k = 0 \\ 36 + k = 0 \\ k =  - 36

Step-by-step explanation:

x^2-5x+k=0

( -4 )^2 -5 ( -4 )+k=0

16+20+k=0

36+k=0

k=-36
