M1=4 d1=30 l1=40
M2=18 d2=12 i2=?
Men is inversely proportional to days and land
So M1 d1 i1= M2 d2 i2
4*30*40=18*12* land
Land =22.2

----------------------------------------

Here is the solution:

----------------------------------------

4 men : 40 acre : 30 days

The number of men is directly proportional to the number of acre they can reap

⇒ fewer men = fewer acre reaped

⇒ more men = more acre reaped

FInd 1 man:

4 men : 40 acre : 30 days

4 ÷ 4 men : 40 ÷ 4 acre : 30 days

1 man: 10 acre : 30 day

Find 18 men:

1 man: 10 acre : 30 day

1 x 18 men: 10 x 18 acre : 30 day

18 men : 180 acre : 30 days

The number of days is directly proportional to the number of acre they can reap

⇒ fewer days = fewer acre reaped

⇒ more days = more acre reaped

Find 1 day:

18 men : 180 acre : 30 days

18 men : 180 ÷ 30 acre : 30 ÷ 30 days

18 men : 6 acre : 1 day

Find 12 days:

18 men : 6 acre : 1 day

18 men : 6 x 12 acre : 1 x 12 days

18 men : 72 acre : 12 days

Answer: 18 men can reap acre in 12 days
