if 4 times the area. of smaller square is subtracted from the area of largr square ,the result is 144m².the sum of the areas of the two squares is 464m².determine the sides of two squares.

  •  {4x }^{2}  -  {y}^{2}  = 144..........given \\ also \\  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  = 464............given \\ adding \: both \: eqns \\ 5 {x}^{2}  = 608 \\  {x}^{2}  =  \frac{608}{5 }  \\  {x  }^{2}  = 121.6 \\  {x} = 11.12 \\ therefore \\  {x }^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  = 464 \\ 121 +  {y}^{2}  = 464 \\  {y}^{2}  = 464 - 121 \\  {y}^{2}  = 343 \\ y = 18.52
