Hi,

We know that,

________________________

(a+b)^2. = a^2 +2ab + b^2.

According to the problem given,

4x^2 +y^2 = 40 ------–---( 1 )

xy = 6................................( 2 )

Do the square of ( 2x+y ) ,

(2x + y)^2 = (2x)^2 + 2 × 2×x×y + y^2

= 4x^2 + 4xy + y^2

= 4x^2 + y^2 + 4xy

= 40 + 4 × 6

[from ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) ]

(2x+y)^2 = 40 + 24

= 64

Therefore ;

2x + y = ±√64

= ± 8. ANSWER

I hope this help you.
