If 40% of a number is 290, then what is the number which is 20% more than the initial number?

Lets suppose that the initial number is x

Since 40% of this number is 290

=> 40% of x = 290

=> x × 40/100 = 290

=> x × 2/5 = 290

=> x = (290×5)/2

=> x = 725

So the initial number is 725

We have to find the number which is 20% more than 725

=> Required number = 725 + 725 × 20/100

=> Required number = 725 + 725 × 1/5

=> Required number = 725 + 145

=> Required number = 870

Hence the number which is 20% more than the initial number is 870
