If 40% of a number is equal to two-third of another number,what is the ratio of first number to the second number?

Ans.

Let, the numbers are x and y.

Then 40% of x is
 \frac{40}{100} x \\  =  \frac{2}{5} x

Given that
 \frac{2}{5} x =  \frac{2}{3} y \\ or \:  \:  \frac{x}{y}  =  \frac{5}{3}


Hence, x : y = 5 : 3.

If first no is x and other no is y , then

x*40/100 = y*2/3
x/y = 2*100/120 = 200/120 = 5/3

so ratio is 5:3 ......
