If 400 gram of calcium carbonate decomposes to form 224 gram of calcium oxide calculate the amount of carbon dioxide form name and same the law on which the calculations are based.

We gave given reaction,

CaCO3 ---> CaO + CO2

Now acc to law of conservation of mass

Total mass of reactant = total mass of product

so,

Amount of CaCO3 = Amount of CaO + Amount of CO2

400 = 224 + x

400-224 = x

so x= 176g

Hence amount of CO2 is 176g
