47x + 31y = 18 -----(1)

31x + 47y =60------(2)

From (1) we get x= \frac{18-3y}{47}

Put in (2)

[Tex]=31\times\frac {(18-3y)}{47} + 47y = 60[/tex]

Solving we get

[Tex]\frac{558}{47} -\frac{93y}{47} +47y = 60[/tex]

Taking lcm as 47

[Tex]\frac{558 - 93y + 2209 y}{47} = 60[/tex]

558 - 2116 y = 2820

2116y=-2262

Y=-1.06

X=18-3y ÷ 47

X= 18 - 3.2 /47

X=0.3

Therefore x+y = 0.3 + 1.06

= 1.37

47x+31y=18

31x+47y=60

on adding both,

78x+78y=78

so,x+y=1
