Answer:

multiply 5x - y = 8 by 3

15x-3y = 24

then add 4x +3y=14 and 15x-3y = 24

19x =38

x = 2

place x=2 in 5x - y =8

10 - y = 8

-y =8-10

-y = -2

y= 2

Answer:

x = 2 and y = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Question given:

solve for x and y: 4x + 3y =14 , 5x - y =8

Solution:

5x - y =8

= y = 5x-8 -------(1)

let 4x + 3y =14 be -------(2)

putting ------(1) in ----(2)

4x + 3y =14

4x + 3(5x- 8) = 14

4x + 15x - 24 = 14

19x = 38

x=2

putting value of x in ----(1)

5x - y =8

5(2) - y =8

10 -y = 8

y = 2
