$d = {b}^{2} - 4ac \\ d = {k}^{2} - 4(4)(k - 3) \\ d = {k}^{2} - 16k + 48 \\ d = {k}^{2} - 12k - 4k + 48 \\ d = k(k - 12) - 4(k - 12) \\ k = 12 \\ k = 4$
