Given,

An expression,  -5/7 =x/28,

To find,

The value of x.

Solution,

The value of x can be found by using the concept of Ratio or Proportion.

Let us assume a = -5, b = 7, c = x, and d =28.

If    \frac{a}{b}=\frac{c}{d}   then (a)(d) = (b)(c).

⇒   (-5)(28) = (7)c

⇒   c = (-5 × 28)/7

⇒   c = -5 × 4

⇒   c = -20 i.e. x = -20

Hence, the value of x is 20.

We can also verify the answer by verifying LHS and RHS.

LHS = -5/7 and RHS = -20/28 which is also -5/7.
