Using the properties of unitary method and unit rate we calculate that 10 dogs can consume 10 bones in 5 minutes.

Given

time taken by 5 dogs to eat 5 bones= 5 minutes

To find:

Time taken by 10 dogs to eat 10 bones

Solution:

It takes 5 dogs to eat 5 bones in 5 minutes

So we have to calculate the rate in which 1 dog can eat 1 bone.

1 dog will need 5\times 5=25 minutes to consume the 5 bones

So 1 dog will consume 1 bone in 25\div 5 = 5 minutes

So in 1 minute the dog consumes  \frac{1}{5} of the bone.

Now 10 dogs can consume at the rate of  10\times \frac{1}{5} = 2  bones per minute.

Number of bones to be consumed by the 10 dogs = 10

Time taken = 10\div 2 = 5 minutes.

Therefore it will take 5  minutes for the 10 dogs to consume 10 bones as calculated using the unitary method.
