Total cost = ((5*5) + (3*4))/8 = 37/8 = 4.625

The average 'cost' of 'mixture per kilogram' is Rs.4.625 per kg.

Given:

Cost of 5 kg of salt = Rs. 5/kg and Cost of 3 kg of salt = Rs. 4/kg are mixed.

To find:

The average cost of the mixture per kilogram

Solution:

Total cost of 5kg salt

=\text { Quantity of salt } \times \text { Price per } \mathrm{Kg}

=5 \mathrm{kg} \times 5

= Rs.25 per kg

Total cost of 3kg salt

=\text { Quantity of salt } \times \text { Price per } \mathrm{Kg}

=3 \mathrm{kg} \times 4

= Rs.12 per kg

Hence, the average cost of mixture per kilogram

=\frac{\text { Total cost of } 5 \mathrm{kg} \text { salt }+\text { Total cost of } 3 \mathrm{kg} \text { salt }}{\text { Total quantity }}

=\frac{25+12}{8}

= Rs.4.625 per kg.

Hence, 'cost' of 'mixture per kilogram' is Rs.4.625
