Given: Normality of HCl = 1N ,

Volume of HCl = 500 ml ,

Normality of NaOH = 1N ,

Volume of NaOH = 250 ml

Find : Normality of resulting solution and it's nature .

Solution : First we have to find the milliequivalents ,

milliequivalent of HCl = N*V

= 1*500

= 500

milliequivalent of NaOH = 1*250

= 250

HCl+NaOH _> NaCl + H2O

milliequivalent 500 250 0 0

before rxn

milliequivalent 250 0 250 250

after rxn

No . of moles that left in the solution after reaction =500-250

= 250

Normality of resulting solution = No of moles left/total volume of the solution

= 250/750

= 0.33 N

  • It is acidic in nature as no of equivalent of HCl is more in number .
