Given :-

58 1/3% of a number is subtracted from itself the result is 640.

To find :-

131 1/4% of the original number.

Solution :-

Let the original number be X

58 1/3% of the number

= 58 1/3% of X

= 175/3 % of X

= [(175/3)/100]×X

= [175/(3×100)]×X

= 175X/300

= 7X/12

On subtracting 7X/12 from the number then

X-(7X/12)

= (12X-7X)/12

= 5X/12

According to the given problem

The result = 640

Therefore, 5X/12 = 640

=> 5X = 640×12

=> X = 640×12/5

=> X = 128×12

=> X = 1536

Therefore, X = 1536

The number = 1536

Now,

131 1/4% of the number

= 131 1/4% of 1536

= 525/4 % of 1536

= 525/4% × 1536

= [(525/4)/100]× 1536

= (525/400)×1536

= (21/16)×1536

= 21×96

= 2016

Answer :-

The 131 1/4% of the original number is 2016

Check :-

The original number = 1536

58 1/3% of 1536 is subtracted from it self then we get

1536 - (58 1/3 % 1536)

= 1536 - (175/3 % of 1536)

= 1536 - [(175/300 ) × 1536]

= 1536 - [(175×1536)/300]

= 1536 - (7×1536/12)

= 1536 - (7×128)

= 1536 - 896

= 640
