Given - 5x + 2y = 5

3x + y = 4

To find - x - y

Solution -

3x + y = 4

3x = 4 - y

x = 4 - y / 3 ------- 1

5x + 2y = 5

5x = 5 - 2y

x = 5 - 2y / 5 -------2

4-y/3 = 5 -2y / 5

5 ( 4- y) = 3 ( 5- 2y)

20 - 5y = 15 - 6y

-5y + 6y = 15 - 20

- y = (-5)

y = 5

putting value of 5 in eq 1

X = 4 - y/ 3

4 - 5/ 3

- 1/3

X - y = (-1)/3 - 5/ 1

= (-1)/3 -15/3

= (-1-15)/3

= (-16)/3
