If 5x - 2y = 7 and xy = 2 find fhe value of ( 5x + 2y ) ^2 .

sʟɪɴ

Given,

5x - 2y = 7 and xy = 2

By using this identity (a - b)² = + - 2ab

(5x - 2y)² = 5x² + 2y² - 2 × 5x × 2y

(7)² = (5x)² + (2y)² - 20xy

49 = 25x² + 4y² - 20 × 2

49 + 40 = 5x² + 2y²

25x² + 4y² = 89

Now , Find the value of (5x + 2y)²

= (a + b)²

= + + 2ab

Then,( 5x)² + (2y)² + 2 × 5x × 2y

= 25x² + 2y² × 20 xy

= 89 + 40

= 129
