let the cost of 1 teddy be x , and modal plane y

6x + 5y = 162..........1

5x + 6y = 168 ..........2

adding 1 and 2

11(x+y) = 330

x + y = 33

susbstracting 1 from 2

5(x-y) - 6(x-y) = 6

x-y = -1

x + y = 33

x = 16 $
y= 17 $

hope it helped you...

Answer: 1 teddy bear will cost $12 and 1 model plane will cost $18.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the cost of a teddy bear be $ x and the cost of a model plane be $ y.

As per the question ,

6x + 5y = 162

5x + 6y = 168

We have to multiply 5 in the 1st equation & 6 in the 2nd equation inorder to make the coefficients of x in both the equations equal.

5×(6x + 5y) = 5× 162 ..........eqn(i)

6×(5x + 6y) = 6× 168 ..........eqn (ii)

Subtracting eqn (ii) from eqn (i) we have,

25y - 36y = 810 - 1008

=> -11y = -198

=> 11y = 198

=> y = 198/ 11 = 18

Now putting the value of y in 1st equation we have

6x + 5×18 = 162

=> 6x+ 90 = 162

=> 6x = 162 - 90 =72

=> x = 72/6 = 12

Therefore the cost of a teddy bear is $12 & the cost of a model plane is $18.
