Given:

if 60% of people of a certain village are illiterate, 28% of the literate population is women. If the number of literate men is 4320,

To Find:

the total population of the village

Solution:

Let the total population of the village be 100x, and it is given that 60% are illiterate so we can deduce that,

illiterate people = 60%*100x

                           =60x

literate people= 100x-60x

                       =40x

Now it says that 28% of literate are women, so we can calculate the number of women as,

Literate women=28%*40x

                         =11.2x

So the number of literate men now will be,

Literate men=40x-11.2x

                    =28.8x

And it is given that the number of literate men is 4320, putting this value in the equation of literate men to find the value of x,

28.8x=4320\\x=150\\

So the value of x has come as 150, then the total population will be,

Population=100x

                 =100*150

                 =15000

Hence, the total population of the village is 15000.
