let the present age of son is x
then 7 years ago their age is
sons age is x-7
fathers age 16(x-7)
after 7 years their age is
sons age x+7
fathers age square of ((16(x-7))+7+7) or square of x+7
then equate we get
16x-98=x+7
x=7
