Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number be x.

Then according to question

4x + 8 = 5x + 2

8 - 2 = 5x - 4x

6 = x

So, the number is 6 and another number is 5x + 2 or 32

Given :

  • if 8 is added to 4 times a number the result is two less than 5 times a number.

To Find :

  • The another number.

Solution :

Let, the number be (x)

According to the question :

  • If 8 is added to 4 times a number = (8 + 4x)
  • The result is 2 less than 5 times a number = (5x - 2)

8 + 4x = 5x - 2

⪼ 8 + 2 = 5x - 4x

10 = x

Verification :

  • Putting (x = 10) in (8 + 4x = 5x - 2)

⪼ 8 + 4x = 5x - 2

⪼ 8 + 4(10) = 5(10) - 2

⪼ 8 + 40 = 50 - 2

⪼ 48 = 48

LHS = RHS
