Given info : eight small spherical metal balls of the same size are melted and made into a single spherical ball.

To find : the radius of the new ball will be ___ times that of a single small ball.

solution : let radius of small ball is r and radius of big ball is R.

8 × volume of a small ball = volume of big ball

⇒8 × 4/3πr³ = 4/3πR³

⇒8r³ = R³

⇒(2r)³ = R³

⇒2r = R

Therefore the radius of the new ball will be 2 times that of a single ball.
