Given info : If 8% (w/v) solution of glucose is isotonic with 2%(w/v) solution of a non-electrolyte solute A.

To find : The molar mass of A is..

solution : This question can be solved easily when you understand the meaning of isotonic solution.

isotonic solution : it denotes to a solution having same osmotic pressure as the other solution.

so here,

osmotic pressure of glucose solution = osmotic pressure of solution of non electrolyte solute A

⇒C₁RT = C₂RT

⇒C₁ = C₂

⇒concentration of glucose = concentration of solution of solute A

⇒ (8g/molar mass of glucose) × 1000/100 ml = (2g/molar mass of solute A) × 1000/100ml

⇒8/180 = 2/molar mass of A

⇒molar mass of A = 180/4 = 45 g/mol

Therefore the molar mass of solute A is 45 g/mol or amu.
