Given :- If 89 is added to each term of the data given below, what is the increase in the median ? 45,49,52,53,67,77,81,99.

Solution :-

→ Given terms = 45,49,52,53,67,77,81,99 = 8 = Even number .

so,

→ Median = (n/2)th term + (n/2 + 1)th term / 2

→ Median = (8/2) th term + (8/2 + 1)th term / 2

→ Median = 4th term + 5th term / 2

→ Median = (53 + 67)/2

→ Median = 120/2

→ Median = 60

now,

→ After adding 89 new terms = 134, 138 , 141, 142, 156, 166, 170, 188

then,

→ New median = 4th term + 5th term / 2

→ New median = 142 + 156/2

→ New median = 149 .

therefore,

→ Increase in median = 149 - 60 = 89 (Ans.)

Shortcut :- if constant term a is added in each terms then, median also increases by a .
