Given:

If 9000 math books were sold at php 215 each, 1200 science book at php 220 each, 5000 language book at php 340 and 4500 art books at php 270,

To find:

The mean sales of the four books.

Solution:

No. of maths books = 9000

No. of science books = 1200

No. of language books = 5000

No. of art books = 4500

The cost of 9000 maths books = 215 × 9000 = 1935000 Php

The cost of 1200 science books = 220 × 1200 = 264000 Php

The cost of 5000 language books = 340 × 5000 = 1700000 Php

The cost of 4500 art books = 270 × 4500 = 1215000 Php

We know,

\boxed{\bold{Mean = \frac{Sum \:of \:observations}{No.\: of\: observations} }}

Therefore,

The mean sales of the four books are,

= \frac{1935000\:+\:264000\:+\:1700000\:+\:1215000}{9000 \:+\: 1200\: +\: 5000 \:+\: 4500}

= \frac{5114000}{19700}

= \bold{259.59}

Thus, the mean sales of the 4 books are → 259.59 Php.
