hence
a-1/a =4
aftersquaring both side
(a- \frac{1}{a} )^{2} =4^2

 = {a}^{2} + \frac{1}{ {a}^{2} } - 2(a)( \frac{1}{a} ) = 16

 {a}^{2} + \frac{1}{{a}^{2} } -2 = 16
 {a}^{2} + \frac{1}{ {a}^{2} } = 16 + 2 = 18
by this process you can get it answer if you can not got it then comment me
