Here, a = - 1/2 and b = - 1/4

∴ a × b = (- 1/2) × (- 1/4)

= 1/2 × 1/4, since (-) × (-) = (+)

= 1/8

∴ b × a = (- 1/4) × (- 1/2)

= 1/4 × 1/2, since (-) × (-) = (+)

= 1/8

Thus a × b = b × a is verified.

Note:

The property a × b = b × a is called Commutative with respect to multiplication.
