a =  \frac{1}{2 -  \sqrt{3} }

 =  \frac{2 +  \sqrt{3} }{4 - 3}  =  \frac{2 +  \sqrt{3} }{1}

 {a}^{2}  = 4 + 3 + 4 \sqrt{3}  = 7 + 4 \sqrt{3}

 {a}^{2}  - 4a + 1 =

7 + 4 \sqrt{3}  - 8 - 4 \sqrt{3}  + 1

Given a = 2 + √3 ⇒ (1/a) = 1 / (2 + √3) Multiply and divide by (2 − √3) ⇒ (1/a) = (2 − √3) / [(2 + √3)(2 − √3)] ⇒ (1/a) = (2 − √3) / [4 − 3] ⇒ (1/a) = (2 − √3) ∴ a + (1/a) = (2 + √3) + (2 − √3) = 4
