a'2+5a-1=0 (multiply by a to the given eqn)

then a=-5-+root(29)

a+1/a =(a'2+1)/a=(2-5a)/a =2/a -5

=2/(-5+root(29)) -5

=2*(-5-root(29))/(-4) -5

2*(5+root(29))/4-5

=10/4+2*root(29)/4 -5

=(root(29))/2 -5/2
