a = 1 -  p +  {p}^{2}   \\ b =  {p}^{2} + p - 1

a - b \\  = (1 - p +  {p}^{2} ) - ( {p}^{2}  + p - 1) \\  = 1 -  {p} +  {p}^{2} -  {p}^{2}   - p + 1 \\  = 2 - 2p
